Doing it Yourself

Living with today’s economy and high costs pushes a lot of us to be more practical and thrifty. There is simply no sense in spending a whole lot of money for things or services that you can do yourself. One of the easiest ways that anyone can save is by making patio door curtains for their own homes. It may not seem like much of a saving but if you think about how much it costs to buy readymade ones compared to buying a few yards of cloth and sewing ones yourself.

Of course before you get started you need to make sure that you have the right measurements for your patio door. When buying the fabric for your curtains do make sure that you provide enough allowance on the sides for sewing the seams. Also on the top portion you will want a lot more space since this is where you will be putting in the place for the curtain rod. If you are not too sure about how much fabric to get, just ask for help from the sales assistant. They should be able to provide you with the correct estimate for proper yardage.

To sew a simple patio door curtain, you will just need to sew in the edges on three sides. At the top you can create a large fold and sew it across. Leave about an inch and a half of space below and sew across this as well. This will give you the space that you need for your rod. If you have more experience you can try adding pleats of your choice.

In case that you do not have a sewing machine, don’t worry. You can always make use of fabric glue and fabric tape. These will give similar results.
