How to make compost by layering

The whole idea when discovering how to make compost is to mix the right ingredients in the right quantity in order for them to decompose quickly. What you need to put into your mix for successful compost is organic waste, soil and fertilizer. These ingredients need to be applied in layers. As the main component of compost is the waste from your home it means that you will need about 4 fifths of your total mix to be organic waste.

Any guide on how to make compost will provide a full list of what makes up the organic waste component. When this has been placed in your bin, box or heap you can then put on fertilizer such as animal manure. This can’t just be any old crap, excuse the pun, it is ideally chicken or cow manure. If you have no access to these, not everybody does, then the fertilizer component can be purchased from a DIY store, garden centre or large supermarket. Finally add a layer of soil from your garden. This is a quick and easy method and will not take long to compile at all. Keep a plastic spray bottle handy as this can be used to moisten the mix or heap which will need to be turned over and mixed up once a month using a large garden tool, you can do it with your hands but it may not be the nicest experience you will ever have! This process is repeated every time you add to your compost mix or heap. So that is the idea of layering when learning how to make compost, it is a very simple process and one that will be a success if you follow it.
