The Process of white wine
Wine has been around for thousands of years, and is the oldest alcoholic beverages. Archaeologists have found traces of wine from Iran that dated back before 6000 B.C. Back then they would use pots made of clay and place crushed grapes in the pot along with some ingredients that they used to make bread with to help ferment the grapes.
Grapes make great wine because of the fact you don’t have to add sugar and enzymes to the mixture to create alcohol. Grapes are naturally fermented by adding yeast to the mixture of crushed grapes and the yeast consumes the sugars found in the grapes and produces the alcohol.
There are basically two types of wine out there. You have your red wine and your white wine. Then there is your pink wine but that’s basically your normal red wine but during the fermentation process they pull the skin of the grape out early so the pigment of the red doesn’t get too dark.
Red wine is perfect for a beverage when eating meats, roast, duck, veil, and pastas. while white wine goes well with seafood, chicken, turkey, chinese food, and pork. However this is just a generality of what most people believe, in the end its just up to personal preference.
Red wines and white wines have some of the similar characteristics, they both range from very dry to sweet, however the difference is that red wine tends to be a bit more acidic and have a stronger flavor. How the red wine gets this more full flavor is that its aged longer in wooden barrels, white wine isn’t aged in wood barrels its aged in glass containers or metal otherwise the flavor would be similar to the red wine, very strong.
Grapes are not the only berry that makes great wines. Wine makers use many different types of fruit such as apples, raspberries, boysenberry’s, and strawberry. The majority of all berries at some point have been attempted to be made into wine.
Though the process of wine has changed wine will continue to be a preferred beverage for years to come.
