Using Sealer For Porous Concrete Is A Must

If you realize that concrete is porous, then you will understand the reason why sealing is extremely important. The pores that are caused by water evaporating from concrete shortly after it is poured, causes little capillaries(pores) to form inside the slab. The pores are large and water vapor and gases flow through them easily being drawn in by lower pressure inside buildings and soil. Usually, water is held back by the surface tension but as the water gets stuck inside the pore, the pores enlarge. Eventually, the pores will start to pull in water as a normal capillary action would work. Having a concrete water repellent sealer applied to the slab can greatly reduce the chances of having issues, such as water seeping though basement walls, spalling or pitting of your driveway and walkways, or cracks and crumbling. If you have never considered a concrete sealer then now is the time, before you start to notice efflorescence, which is the white salty look that is your first sign of beginning water seepage. If you have noticed some white salty looking powder spots on your concrete, then working quickly may end up saving you thousands of dollars and a big headache. Hiring a professional is always an option but taking some kind of action and applying a complete concrete coating of a water repellent sealer yourself will help and hopefully start to slow down the damage that has already started. Making sure to use a penetrating sealer will make sure that it gets into the middle and protects from the inside out.
