Enjoy the simple things in life and at church
Sometimes, it is easy to overlook the simple things in life. I have two short stories to tell that illustrate this point very well.
The first happened to me when I was at work a few days ago and I was struggling to reach an important deadline. Co-worker were running around everywhere, trying to get things finished to they could go home and spend time with their families for the weekend. I was becoming more agitated by the moment, but then something in my head told me to stop for a second and look on the bright side of things. Even though we were all struggling to reach a deadline, I became grateful that I had a job at all. My new found perspective had a calming influence on the office, and everybody was nicer to each other from that point on.
The second story has to do with an experience I had at church last Sunday. Usually I just go through the motions at church because we do the exact same thing every week. My routine is pretty much the same: I walk in, grab the church bulletin, read it not very carefully, then proceed to nod off while the pastor says his bit about the Bible. But last week I look at that bulletin more carefully. I wondered to myself how such great church bulletin covers could have escaped my notice all those weeks. They really were impressive to behold, so I was kind of mad at myself that I had never taken time to stop and enjoy the simple things at church and in life.
