Getting Rid of Rats

There are so many people that love to have pet rats. In fact, my bets friend is a lover of rats and has four pet rats of her own. But what about those of us who have a rat infestation that we don’t want to have? We definitely don’t want to keep these rats around since they present specific kind of danger. Not only will they be extremely destructive to your property, but they carry diseases as well. When you first see signs of a rat infestations, take immediate steps to get rid of rats as soon as you can.

Getting rid of rats isn’t as easy as it may seem, though. Unfortunately, it isn’t simply a matter of finding them and killing them. They are actually really hard to find when you are looking for your nest. But there are a few places that you can look first. Since rats prefer to be closer to the ground, look under your house. They will likely want to exit and enter easily, so the nest may be along the walls of your foundation. Be sure to wear protective covering, including a mask, gloves and even a cover all suit. You don’t want to be exposed to any of the diseases that rats present.

If you are successful in finding the rat nest, the next step to get rid of rats is to find out how they are getting into your house. Keep in mind that rats can squeeze into a very small space of only a half an inch. So while you are looking for an entry point, look for small holes in the ground or in the foundation or walls. Go from the ground up, ending at the roof. Rats are great at climbing, so climbing up your house isn’t a big deal for them. They may be coming in from the roof. When you find the entry point, block it off immediately.

Once you have blocked the entries and have the rats closed in, it is time to set traps. If you ever want to get rid of rats, you are going to have to set traps. That is the best way to eliminate them. But don’t forget, once their all dead, you are going to have to go in an clean up after them. Again, don your protective wear and be sure to clean up any and all evidences of rats.
