I’ll only buy Christian cards from now on

I’ve noticed something peculiar over the past few special occasions I have witnessed. It seems to me that the very first thing we do when we find out that it is somebody’s birthday or a holiday, is that we buy a greeting card. I think that most of the time we don’t think about what we are doing, but we just buy the card anyway. It’s almost like Pavlov’s dogs: when we hear the word birthday or holiday, we instinctively rush to buy a bunch of greeting cards.

Once we get to the store, we are faced with an obscene number of cards, and most of them stink. Greeting card companies are always trying to shock us into opening their cards first. Now there are music playing cards that make me want to plug my ears because they are so loud and annoying. I don’t know who at the greeting card company comes up with these ideas, but I don’t appreciate most of the cards I find at the store.

It seems like I am always asking myself why I keep going back to buy them. If I had learned anything from the past, I would just go to the Christian store and buy a box of Christian cards.

I am Christian, after all. I would rather spend my money on cards with good messages than the junk that they push at the grocery store. In fact, as I’m writing this, I think I will make a resolve to buy only high quality Christian cards for my friends and family.
