Preparing for a Quality Concrete Sealer Application
When choosing a concrete sealer, it is best to do some research to find the results that you expect to get. A sealer is a great way to make concrete easier to clean up, to increase the longevity of the cement, and to boost your home’s street appeal. The first thing to know about a concrete sealer is that the concrete first needs to be cleaned properly. This is probably the biggest determining factor in the longevity of any concrete sealer regardless of brand and cost. A concrete surface should be cleaned using a concrete cleaner to remove all the contaminants such as dirt, mold, mildew, rust stains, tire marks, oil stains, and so on. A good cleaner and the use of a high power pressure washer can do a very sufficient job. Be sure the pressure washer is not too excessive if the concrete is older because it could damage it. Use the right amount of equal pressure on the surface after first applying the cleaner to help break down and emulsify the contaminants. After the surface is cleaned it should be allowed to dry for several days until all the moisture is out of the cement. A concrete sealer applied too soon could trap in moisture causing the sealer to fail prematurely. After the surface has dried any good quality concrete sealer will work well. Most concrete sealer can be applied with a roller, pump up sprayer, or airless paint sprayer. Apply the concrete sealer according to the directions and your investment will be protected for years to come.
